Characteristics

Chromaline SUPER PHAT Film is a professional high-density presensitized screen printing film designed for applications requiring exceptionally thick stencils and heavy ink deposits. It provides screen printers with a controlled and repeatable alternative to building extremely thick stencils using multiple coats of liquid emulsion.

SUPER PHAT is especially well suited for textile printers producing high-density and special-effects graphics where substantial ink deposits are required to create dimensional printed effects. Its ability to achieve extreme stencil build-up also makes it an excellent choice for electronics, industrial, and other specialty screen-printing applications.

The film delivers excellent stencil build-up while maintaining high-quality imaging and strong line-edge definition. Fast exposure and drying characteristics help shorten screen preparation time, allowing screen rooms to produce thick stencils efficiently without creating a major bottleneck in production.

SUPER PHAT Film is transparent for easier registration and offers excellent washout characteristics after exposure. Its fast drying performance helps prevent the undesirable "orange peel" surface effect that can occur when preparing very thick stencils.

Improved humidity resistance provides additional reliability in changing production environments, while the film's controlled thickness helps printers achieve consistent stencil profiles from screen to screen.

SUPER PHAT is compatible with plastisol, silicone, UV, and solvent-based ink systems, making it suitable for a broad range of textile, graphic, electronics, industrial, and specialty printing applications.

Unlike conventional wet-applied capillary films, SUPER PHAT must be bonded to the screen mesh using a compatible liquid emulsion. This direct/indirect application method provides the adhesion and stencil structure necessary for the film's substantial thickness.

Available in multiple micron thicknesses from 100 to 700 microns, SUPER PHAT allows printers to select the stencil profile and ink deposit appropriate for the desired printed effect or industrial application.

Usage Tips
  • SUPER PHAT Film must be bonded to the screen mesh using a compatible liquid emulsion.
  • Begin with a properly cleaned and degreased screen before applying the film.
  • Chromaline recommends using a tightly tensioned screen for best results.
  • Remove the protective cover from the SUPER PHAT Film before laminating it to the screen.
  • Position the film on a suitable build-up board smaller than the inside dimensions of the screen.
  • Place the screen squeegee side up over the film.
  • Apply compatible liquid emulsion across the mesh to laminate the SUPER PHAT Film to the screen.
  • Follow the laminating emulsion manufacturer's coating and drying recommendations.
  • Additional coats of liquid emulsion may be applied to the squeegee side when required for proper film bonding and stencil construction.
  • Allow the screen to dry completely before removing the polyester carrier.
  • SUPER PHAT can be dried at temperatures up to approximately 110°F (43°C) according to Chromaline's application guidance.
  • Remove the carrier only after the stencil has thoroughly dried.
  • Attach the film positive and expose the stencil using an appropriate UV exposure system.
  • Develop the exposed stencil thoroughly. Chromaline recommends a pressure washer for developing these thick stencils.
  • Select the SUPER PHAT micron thickness according to the desired stencil build-up and ink deposit.
  • Store unexposed film in its closed container in a cool, dry location away from light.
  • Store cut sheets flat to help prevent wrinkling.
